I've been a Sociology Professor for the last 25 years and I currently reside and teach in Florida. I've also taught at universities in Arizona and Montana, and all the views expressed in this blog are mine alone, unrelated to employers past or present... Most of my interests, both academic and personal, revolve around issues of race & ethnicity, politics, health, sport and science. For fun I enjoy swimming and travel. ... The purpose of this blog is to combine current issues, sociological concepts, and my own personal experiences to offer a critique of our modern social landscape.

I have been playing a lot of Bill Laswell around the house and in the car lately. A bassist, producer, and composer, he's one of the most prolific artists in popular music. I particularly enjoy his ambient work and the dub/reggae collaborations with Lee Scratch Perry, such as "Jerusalem" and Ethiopia", and the album "Rise Again". Cheers
